I owned one of these I resurrected out of San Diego Motorcycle Salvage in 1979. Rode it around for a while then sold it for another project. Pretty neat little motorcycle and handled great.
Had one just like this, same year and color, back in ’75 through ’79. Put quite a few miles on it and never had any trouble. It was very smooth due to the counter-balance shafts and a good runner. I really enjoyed this bike. My wife used to ride a lot with me. Then the kids came, fixing up houses, career and all that stuff so I sold it. Fun while it lasted.
My first motorcycle was a 1974 TX500 bought new in March 1974.
Three of us young dudes age 21, 21 & 18 bought a trio of these and rode them home without licenses. We quickly learned to ride and made it legal eventually. We hit the road west from D.C. August 3, 1974 and made it home alive and seperately after seeing much of Canada and the west coast and a whole lot in between. I got home in March 1975 after a chilly ride across the southern tier of the U.S. and north from Georgia.
It was a pretty fast bike that handled well and was a lot of fun……….when it wasn’t raining or cold, which was quite a lot of the time.
I also owned a 1974 tx, bought it new april 74. Met my wife on it, we rode it for 3 or 4 years. I put about 20,000 miles on it, not ever one problem. I would love to have one now.
my wife bought one just like this one back in 1981 for $500.00 it is now january 2012 and i am starting today to redo this bike from top to bottom front to back if and one got manuels on this bike please email me at oilman5030@yahoo.com

I know that this is an old post. Are you still looking for a TX500 manual? I have one that is falling apart. I am going to copy it and put the copy in a binder. I could do two copies if you are still looking. spookems@mindspring.com
