Socal Supermoto Day at Adams Kart Track in Riverside, CA

Had a great time today riding a very short technical track on my DR650 along with the crew from SoCal Supermoto. Brian was a very gracious host to the crew and I picked up a few more pointers in my quest of being a smoother rider.

I took some video, but need to edit them and upload to You Tube, so that may be a day or so. Here are some pictures:

I have never had a clock on a motorcycle and never really gave it much thought. I had a student who had a nice looking clock on his Triumph Thruxton and it blended so nicely and almost looked like it came as standard equipment. Anyway, I ordered mine from Ross and Linda at http://clocks4bikes.com/index.html

and it came within 2 days with the time already set, It took more time to get it out of the box than it did to install. After having it for a couple days now, I can say that it is nice to know what the actual time is while I am riding and have also discovered that some of the routes I take around town that I considered “the quickest” are in fact NOT! I guess you can teach this old dog new tricks!

2010 Triumph Thunderbird Test Ride

leave a comment »

I was at Rocket Motors the other day dropping off CMSP Brochures and Lance asked if I would like to test ride the Triumph Thunderbird. I am not a cruiser type of rider, although most of our training bikes has the cruiser style with the forward foot pegs. I said sure and took off for a ride. I went about 10 miles, rode north a bit on a side road, then crossed over to the freeway for the return.

What a nice ride! The Thunderbird is big and powerful. I kept wanting to move my feet back under me, but other than that, it was very comfortable. handling: WOW! very responsive to steering input (pressing) and it does not feel heavy or awkward. Power: another WOW! The engine has so much torque! You could pull away in any gear at low speeds and not one bit of that chugging, thinking it might stall feelings at all!

I like the Thunderbird, but would like it better if they just put the engine in a Bonneville frame! Just don’t think I could get into the cruiser mode of seating positions until I am around 80 years old (and that is a BIG maybe).
