About Phil the Motorcyclenut
I have been riding since 1964 and now that I am semi-retired, I hope to chronicle my motorcycling past (If I can remember everything!) and current adventures.
I give thanks and praise to God and our Lord Jesus for all my blessings and also praise my wife, Tina, for putting up with me for over 21 years now.
I am also an MSF RiderCoach. It is the most rewarding job I have ever had. I have so much fun coaching new and old riders the fundamentals to ride safely.
I use and sell Amsoil, and you may see references about its use in my articles. If you are interested you can check out my Amsoil site.
This is a work in progress, so please check back from time to time. I prefer to be riding and working on my motorcycles, to being in front of the computer, so this could take a while.
Thanks for checking it out!

Hey Phil,
Finally had a look. Quite an impressive stable of past and present scooters. Doing your own work will be a great source of Q & A between the two of us. I do most all of my own work as well however, I’ve taken way too long of a break from riding. Thanks again for helping me get the thrill back. Gary

Thanks Gary, I am not done yet. This takes time and I would rather be out in my garage or riding than in front of the computer. We will be in touch!

Phil,
Didn’t you have a125cc dirt bike in San Diego in 1973? I remember riding with you on the 175cc Kawasaki. Both were 2-stroke. You still had the 500 H1 also. I think I also remember you putting a sidecar on the 500? To this day, I still have no idea how you rode with that “contraption.” It certainly was beyond me. Those were good days, Phil. Thanks for the blog with the pictures. Brought back great memories of our “youth” looking at the pics.” Best regards, Cal

I had the 100cc Hodaka ‘Dirt Squirt” back then, and later on got the Kawasaki 125. I am trying to locate pictures of both of those and hope to post info on them as well. The sidecar was put on a KZ400. I think you were on the Monticello then and I was on the Oriskany because I rode the KZ down from Long Beach and the counter-balancer device on the KZ broke and I ended up trading it in At Floyd Emde’s shop in National City for that old 1959 BSA. Thanks Cal, it sure was good to speak with you and Dorothy tonight. We gotta keep more in touch!

Phil
As you already know Maria and I went to Tombstone 2 weeks ago on a real bike. You and Tina 20 years? Mom and Dad Pizarro sure made some good women. Maria and I completed 40 and looking for 50. Maria rides on the back like a dream come true. Wish I had not waited so long to get her on the back.
Looking at your profile I was shocked to see that you too had a BSA. Mine was a BSA Star. Frame chopped with extended forks. I got it as a basket case in 1970. I remember riding it to my moms house when the big quake hit in Aug of 1970.
I remember trying to keep up with my younger brother on his 125 Yamaha. He also had a Hodaka and won a desert race in 1971 under my name as mom wouldn’t sign for him.
So now is the good time of year here in NM to go for long rides and enjoy the sights and smells of Autumn. Just got my friend into a 1992 Harley Softtail and will probably go back to Tombstone in a couple of weeks..

Good to hear from you! We are currently on vacation at our secret getaway. Tina likes the comfort of my XS750 triple, but likes the power and sound of the VTR. We rode in the rain last Saturday night. So refreshing! Hope to see you in San Diego soon!

Hi Phil!,
Super nice website you have.
I’m heading down to San Felipe on Baja’s east side for a day or so. On the xs650. I might ride over to Ensenada and up to Tecate. Maybe even get near your stomping grounds. Could you email your phone number again? If I get close to SD, I’ll buy you a burger!
Later,
Larry
cell# XXX-XXXXXXX, might be in my pocket, but I’ll get your number if you call.

I’m glad you give thanks to God; do you listen to family radio 610am at all? They say according to the bible, the end of the world is in about 822 days on 5 21 2011. See you Saturday to pick up my honda rebel, sorry for all the paperwork questions!

Hi Phil,
This is Jeff. I bought the Superhawk motor off of you about 1.5 years ago. I was searching for a map of the Auto Club Speedway when I came across your site. Well, the Superhawk is now dead and I have a 1098 :] Hope all is going well!

The XS with the TX750 front. It looks like the 650″s triple trees? What was involved in the swap?
Thanks,
Dan

I believe the triple trees were also TX750. The swap had been done a long time before I had owned the XS2. I had a spare stock XS2 parts bike at the time and it’s triple tree was not the same.

Hi Phillip,
I took a look at your site after reading the members review of the Suzuki DR650 in American motorcyclist. I use to drive go karts at adams kart track back in the day about 1962. I also use to race DRA & District 37 desert races in the mid 70s. I have had a great time reading some of your blog and looking at the adams kart track videos. I will return to read and check out some more when I have more time. Happy to see you having so much fun with the motorcycles! Keep enjoying and sharing. Thanks, Jamie DRA#2 1975

Wow! I did not realized they published anything about my comments (on Facebook) in AMA’s American Motorcyclists magazine. What a surprise. I am glad you enjoyed the blog and I hope to have some more stuff posted soon. Keep in touch!

Phil,
The DRZ is looking pretty good. It will be fun to see how the 400 will be able to hang, since I installed the new carb.
